The owner, Sir William Gordon Cummings, 4th Baronet and Chief of the Clan Cumming, was a keen sportsman who was proficient at a number of sports, including golf. He was a staunch supporter nd Patron of the Forres Golf Club. It was undoubtedly he who had the course at Altyre house laid out for his personal use..

The opening competition for prizes given by Lady Gordon-Cumming took place on Saturday. The first prize was won by Master Alistair Gordon-Cumming ( handicap 9 ) after a tie with T. Innes ( 7 ). Among the runners up were F. Richardson ( 5 ), H. Ankers ( 7 ) and Sir William Gordon-cumming ( Scratch ).

The return match between these clubs took place at Muiyshade on 24th inst., in ideal weather for the game. The match resulted in a draw – 4 matches each – but the Altyre club had the advantage by holes, having 9 to the good. The teams were as follows :-
