Newton Stewart Golf Club.

 

 Instituted 1896.  A 9-hole course situated in the policy fields of Kirroughtree, a few minutes walk from the town. The ground is undulating with patches of whin, hawthorn and sloes here and there, and enclosed for the most part by fine woods, the whooe forming a scene of rare sylvan and pastoral beauty. The lengths of the holes vary between 160 and 450 yards, and the fairways are kept well cut. There is a convenient golf pavilion on the course. Members 170. Creebridge Hotel adjoins the course and is of great convenience to members.” (GSWR 1922)
